That’s Nice, Sweetie

Disappointing your children, but make it whimsical

What it is

That’s Nice, Sweetie is a game prototype developed in 2 days by You Ran Wang, Stephen Friedrich, Norah Wilcox, and Elliot Stocking for the Gamerella 2025 Game Jam, based on the prompt “i made this for you.

You take on the role of a parent of three young children, and, well, you’re a good parent. Really, you are. You want to be there for darlings Timmy, Maggie, and Billy, and so when they come up to you, eyes shining, holding art they made in school and ask you to put it up on the fridge, how could you refuse? The look of pride and satisfaction on their faces alone could burst your heart wide open.

It’s just that they keep doing it. Your fridge is only so big, you cannot possibly fit it all, can you?

Something’s got to give.

What I did

I developed the game’s core concept, designed its systems, and wrote the barks from your children that would accompany each of their drawings. I also acted as the game’s producer, creating the framework whereby both of our artists and our programmer could coordinate on what your kids’ art pieces would be and how they would work mechanically.

Where to play it

That’s Nice, Sweetie unfortunately encountered several insurmountable technical hurdles in development. However, you can see our concept art on our team’s itch.io page.
